Schimmel ist eklig! Doch oft verwehrt diese Reaktion die Möglichkeit, sich mit Schimmel auseinanderzusetzen und sich mit den positiven Aspekten zu beschäftigen. Abgesehen vom Ekel, hat Schimmel einen hohen ästhetischen Wert. In dem Projekt werden Sofas vorgestellt, die mit Schimmeloptik versehen sind. Mit Hilfe eines Konfigurators kann sich der Betrachter ein Unikat schaffen, das die Wahrnehmung der Schimmelästhetik hinterfragt. Aus dem ursprünglichen Ekel wird ein Luxusprodukt geschaffen.

In the project sofas are presented, which are provided with mold optics. With the help of a configurator, the viewer can create a unique piece that questions the perception of the mold aesthetic. Das Produkt setzt sich aus zwei Komponenten zusammen – dem Möbelstück selbst und dem Schimmelpilzbezug. Für die Herstellung des Sofas wird Pilzmaterial verwendet, hierbei handelt sich um ein Substrat aus Pilz-Myzel und landwirtschaftlichen Abfällen wie Hanf-, Flachs- und Maisstängelschalen. Der Schimmelpilz-Bezug selbst wird aus Stoff gefertigt. Im Prozess entsteht ein Tausch der Materialien – das Sofa besteht letztlich aus Pilz und der Schimmelpilz aus Stoff. Dabei wird der Eindruck erweckt, dass das Sofa schimmelt, dies jedoch ohne jegliche gesundheitliche Bedenken oder sonstige negative Folgen.
